Farren, BACKUPSETS take an image from the files the server currently has active for that client. You could use the -del option on the archive command
************************************************************************** Deletefiles Use the deletefiles option with the archive command to delete archived files from your workstation. You can also use this option with the restore image command and the incremental option to delete files from the restored image if they were deleted from the file space after the image was created. Syntax >>-DELetefiles------------------------------------------------->< Parameters There are no parameters for this option. Examples Command line: dsmc archive "/home/foo/*.c" -deletefiles dsmc restore image /local/data -incremental -deletefile ************************************************************************** By not using the above command, when you issue the archive command, the files will remain exactly as they were. Hope this helps. Wouldn't this be a much quicker option? Anyone know why it works this way? Also, I'm running TSM 3.7.3.8 (I know it's old, but Tectrade are coming in a few weeks to bring us bang up to date) on a Solaris 2.7 server. The client that I wish to archive from is running TSM Client 3.7.2.0. When I run an archive, will the origional data automatically be removed? I would rather run the archive, check that it worked ok and then remove the data. So, in this case, I want to archive the dir /wispers/home/fred Do I simply use the command archive -subdir=yes "/wispers/home/fred*" Thanks in advance Farren Minns - John Wiley & Sons David Longo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>@VM.MARIST.EDU> on 14/08/2002 20:01:03 Please respond to "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent by: "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: Subject: Re: Simple Archiving question It is requested from the client. It doesn't just take some already backed data and archive it. Archive works differently, can have different mgmnt classes, etc. David Longo >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 08/14/02 10:55AM >>> Hi all Just a quick question here. When an archive is performed, am I right in thinking that the data is taken directly from the TSM server, or is it requested from the client again?
