Hi I recently talked to Tivoli support regarding moving one of our customers TSM platform off mainframe onto AIX.
There is only two ways of doing this: 1. Do export of all your nodes from the S/390 server, and do import from thoose tapes into your Sun TSM platform. This will take a long time if you have a lot of clients. We did an export of 200 nodes, totaling 15TB of data on one of our other customers, who wanted to consolidate two TSM server into one. Doing export of 200GB could take up to 24 hours. this means, exporting 1TB of data takes 4 days. However, the customers old machines wasn't top of the line(IBM H50)... 2. Migrate your clients onto the Sun solaris, just by moving a group of clients each at a time. The negative effect of this, is that you will have to save the old client data on your S/390 platform. This means that you cannot remove your TSM server on S/390 until the client data has been built up on you Sun platform.(twice as many tapes). Tivoli does not, and will not in the future, support moving the TSM database of S/390 platform to another platform such as Sun, AIX, HP/UX and Windows. Also, Tivoli does not support doing backup of the TSM database on one platform, such as AIX, and restore of the database onto another platform, such as Sun. ----------------------------------- Daniel Sparrman Exist i Stockholm AB Propellervägen 6B 183 62 HÄGERNÄS Växel: 08 - 754 98 00 Mobil: 070 - 399 27 51 Joni Moyer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent by: "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 2002-09-10 15:03 Please respond to "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: Subject: TSM move off of mainframe???? Hello! I just wanted to thank everyone for their input on LTO and 9840B/9940A. It was very helpful! I have another question.... Has anyone moved TSM off of the mainframe and onto a SUN/solaris platform which will be attached to our SAN? If so, do you have any advice or suggestions? Maybe documentation or a procedure plan for this process? I've been looking on the tivoli site and I have not found such a plan. Thanks!!!!
