I've done export followed by import with mergefilespaces on TSM for AIX
v.5.1.6.2. The result was *almost* the expected one - the imported files
merged to the filespaces as if you have performed both backups on new
server. The "almost" part was that newly imported versions/objects were
incorrectly sorted - in the output of "dsmc> q ba <some file> -ina" they
were on the end of the output and *not* where you can expect them sorted
by date/time.
As a consequence I was unable to use -pitd and -pitt options on restore.
To workaround it I've used sucessfully -fromd, -fromt, -tod and -tot
options.

Subject: EXPORT NODE TO SERVER - need details

I need to move some clients from our zOS TSM server to our AIX TSM server.

We have already started to move these nodes, by having them backup to BOTH
TSM servers.

Now I need to move things like old backups we want to keep, archives, etc.

I want to use the EXPORT NODE TO SERVER process, including
MERGEFILESPACES=YES.

My question is this. What does TSM do if the files already exists ? I
know there is an option to REPLACEDEFS but I am talking about files, not
filespaces or definitions.

I had an earlier issue when I attempted this. I had done the EXPORT to
tape (before I upgraded the zOS system to V5) and then IMPORTed specific
backups for a particular filesystem/subdirectory. The numbers for the
EXPORT looked good and so did the IMPORT. They pretty-much jived.

However, the files that were IMPORTed never showed up. All attempts at
querying them, failed. We have never been able to figure out where these
files went.

Yes, I have RTFM, but the detail for this area, is lacking. I had to get
the V5.2 books to get any information about EXPORT NODE TO SERVER. The
V5.1 books have never been updated !
