Regarding TSM 5.1 Extended on RedHat Linux 9.0: When I read in the manual for TSM install, it said that TSM requires the 2.4.9-31(smp) kernel. I figured that meant that kernel or newer. Boy was I wrong. I'm trying to install drivers for my Overland library and drives, and it's giving me the: "The supported kernel levels are 2.4.9-31..."
I assume others have hit this problem, and I'm curious what they've done? 1) Run a totally different OS? - AIX? Does TSM have any kernel problems with device drivers for Overland Neo 4100 Series libraries and Drives? Windows? - Windows 2000 Server? or just 2000 Pro? Anyone have a good experience with putting TSM 5.1 on Windows platform? (other than the usual windows troubles) 2) Run the old 2.4.9-31 kernel? Doesn't this leave your system vulnerable? And don't other rpm's require certain kernel levels? So if you kept using 2.4.9-31 kernel then you'd have a problem running other rpm's? What if we purchase RedHat Enterprise Linux? Will that platform run the 2.4.9-31 kernel reliably? 3) Some other solution? Recompile the new kernels with support for the device drivers? Please feel free to enter any input. I think we are willing to move to any other option, whatever is the best.
