Shawn,

I have had this before

The "show path" command will give you a hint on how to fix it.
This command showed for the path/drivemapping that the TSM-server had to a
redundant drive.
A "delete drivemapping <TSM-SERVERNAME> <LIBRARY-NAME> <DRIVE-NAME>" did the
trick

After this command we could delete the drives and library.

cheers
Jeroen

Subject: Cannot delete tape drive

All,
I am running TSM 4.2.1.8 on an AIX 4.3.3 server connected to a 3584 library
with 4 FC 3580 drives. Last week I was having some FC connectivity issues
and worked with IBM and Tivoli support for several hours trying to get
everthing worked out. I now have one tape drive that is offline and I cannot
set the device (/dev/rmt0) or even remove it from the library. The issue
seems to be that the library was setup as shared, and my predecessor was
working with StorageAgents and Lan-free backups, but never fully implemented
them. So now when I try to do a 'delete drive 3584lib drive01' I get the
following message:
ANR9798E DELETE DRIVE: One or more paths are still defined for drive DRIVE01
in library 3584LIB.
ANS8001I Return code 13.

Now there were some drivemappings setup for 3 of our clients that mapped to
2 of the 4 drives, one of them being DRIVE01 which I'm having issues with. I
went in on the server side and removed all of the drive mappings for all
servers and drives hoping to free something up. Also I've restarted the TSM
service 3 or 4 times and have still had no luck.

I searched the archives and found mention of this from time-to-time, but
never saw an resolutions. The biggest issue seems to be that 4.2.x did not
have support for paths, and as such doing a 'q path' just returns an error:
ANR2000E Unknown command - QUERY PATH.
ANS8001I Return code 2.

Any Ideas? I'm hoping to upgrade to TSM 5.1 but donšt want to do it with
these configuration problems.

Thanks in advance

Shawn
