G'day Hector, You would check in a tape with status=private when your TSM has "named" volumes ie, you DEF VOLUME explicitly. Then tapes that are status=private are only mounted when requested by name.
Why would you do this? Well maybe you have a storage pool that you want to ensure that it has "N" volumes available out of our list of scratch tapes? Or you want a storage pool to use a list of named volumes only... (To answer your 2nd part, if it is not defined to a storage pool (DEF VOLUME), and the status is private, then it wont be used!). ...deon --- Have you looked at the A/NZ Tivoli User Group website? http://www.tuganz.org Deon George, Customer Support Account Engineer, IBM Australia Office: +61 3 9626 6058, Fax: +61 3 9626 6622, Mobile: +61 412 366 816, IVPN +70 66058 mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.ibm.com/tivoli Hector Chan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent by: "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 14/08/2003 08:49 AM Please respond to "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc Subject status=private Hi there, A generic question. I cannot find a satisfactory answer from the manuals. Under what circumstances do we want to check in a newly labelled tape with status=private ? Do we have to assign it to a storage pool as a subsequent step or it's not going to be available? Hector Chan
