My thinking is ALWAYS have a second copy. Have had a rash of bad tapes over the past
year. Thanks to the offsite storage pool, I have only lost two files in six years of
using adsm/tsm for approximately 100 clients. One of those lost files occurred before
I had the resources to have an offsite copy. The other was just plain bad luck. Both
onsite and offsite copies were on 3590 volumes in the bad batch.
I have my onsite pool colocated by filespace, but the offsite pool is of course, not
colocated. I do reclamations every day, and the offsite pool uses about two thirds
the cartridges of the onsite. Worth every blasted cartridge to me.
