The simple answer is that, yes, that is the sequence, where realistic. TSM wants to recreate the directory structure first, which is most readily done in Unix, but will be done one way or the other (as in creating temporary surrogates, to get actual directory info later, when encountered in tapes, per Restore Order processing). And TSM is no fool, in seeking to restore files from the most efficient source, which is to say the highest level in the storage pool hierarchy, when the data is available there. It's not something you configure: it's part of the philosophy of the product.

Hi All,
restoring a full filesystem, what is the sequence of volume usage ?
Because the directories and the last incr backups are stored in disk volumes and restoring the last backups first, I want the following sequence:
1. restore directories. 2. restore files from disk volumes. 3. restore files from tape volumes.
Use the TSM-server this sequence ? If not, how can I configure it ?
Thanks in advance !
