I have 2 AIX servers defined to each other and I can run the ping server command to each and it does see a response, but I have defined TSMPROD to b390.highmark.com and vice versa. The PING SERVER command is provided for that purpose. The command uses the user ID and password of the administrative ID that issued the command. If the administrator is not defined on the server being pinged, the ping fails even if the server may be running. Outside of TSM you can use the OS ping command to test TCP/IP connectivity.
