(Oracle 9i; AIX 5.2, TDP 5.2.0) Install went well, TDPOCONF PASSW & SHOWENV successful. First attempt at an RMAN backup produced the following RMAN error: RMAN-03009: failure of allocate command on ch00 channel at 08/11/2005 13:10:23 ORA-19554: error allocating device, device type: SBT_TAPE, device name: ORA-27000: skgfqsbi: failed to initialize storage subsystem (SBT) layer IBM AIX RISC System/6000 Error: 106: For future use Additional information: 7011 ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text: SBT error = 7011, errno = 106, sbtopen: system error However, nothing was logged in the TSM log I specified in TDPO.OPT dsmi_log parm. That seemed odd so I changed the permissions on the log to 666, and then RMAN backups started working. (Lucky shot in the dark). Now getting same error on recovery. Despite what the content of the error message says, my problems seem to be related to file ownership and / or permissions on the client. However, I can find nothing in the installation guide that helps, nor are there any recent hits in IBMLINK. Any suggestions?? Thanks.
