Hello, Mehdi. I hope this answer isn't too late for you. In the TS7650[G], a virtual cartridge is not erased the volume is written to from the beginning - i.e. a "label libvol" is performed on it. Before the RELABELSCRATCH function was added to TSM, data on a virtual volume would be accessible until the volume was reused, even if it was returned to scratch 3 years ago and has been unused since. Nowadays, if you use the RELABELSCRATCH feature, that data will be accessible only until REUSEDELAY expires, whereupon the volume is returned to scratch and relabeled, and the data erased.
The remote site will erase that same volume when the asynchronous replication "catches up" to the relabeling. A few things to keep in mind: - For TSM to be able to find that data after expiration, TSM will have to have its database restored to a point in time in which that data still exists. - Even if a file is expired, the volume it resides on is not reclaimed until it falls below the RECLAIM of the stgpool. This means the volume may not be reclaimed for quite a while after the expiration of the file in which you are interested. ________________________________ Alex Paschal Storage Solutions Engineer MSI Systems Integrators (503) 943-6919 - Office ________________________________ Your Business. If some backups expire in TSM, what happens to the copy in remote site? Will it be expired or retained?
