When we started using snapdiff backups, the documentation said it was compatible with any release of OnTap above 7.2. We committed to using snapdiff with our OnTap 7.3.3 FAS, and by using the arcane options TESTFLAG SNAPDIFFONTAPFAP and TESTFLAG SNAPDIFFNAMEFILTEROFF, it mostly worked. We settled down to cope with dsmcsvc crashes about once a week, after Tivoli support told us (post-hoc, mind you) that our configuration would not be supported until the release of the 6.2.2.0 client. That glorious day has come, and yesterday I took out the testflags and ran tests with the new client. It seems to have worked, although each volume has produced this warning:
ANS4089W File server fas13 has been upgraded to Data ONTAP version '7.3.3'. Perform a full incremental backup by specifying option createnewbase=migrate as soon as possible. I hope I can safely ignore this warning, since we haven't in fact "upgraded", but I did experiment with the CREATENEWBASE option. I tried CREATENEWBASE MIGRATE (the usual syntax) and CREATENEWBASE=MIGRATE (you never know), and CREATENEWBASE YES after a finding a single hit using a Famous Search Engine (the hit was for AIX; we are using Windows). No matter what, the Client Acceptor would not run. Does anyone have information to share? - Margaret Clark San Diego Data Processing Corporation
