Hi Andy, If you don't wanna run NDMP, I suggest that you maybe build a GPFS cluster and only used Isilon as dummy storage. In that case can you build much larger filesystem then Isilon can do and you have much faster and better backup solutions.
I know that it could be waste of hardware and money but depend on how much data and retention period. But you will probably save money in the end if you going to have a lot of data and need to save it for more then 6+ month.
