Hi David,

Have you tried the "rebuild solution" menu option?
This always solves "phantom error messages". There are a few bugs in the
background compiler that cause strange build error messages although nothing
is wrong with the code.

HTH,

Joris

Onderwerp: [ADVANCED-DOTNET] Really weird compiler warnings

Hello all,

I've run into really weird compiler problems with the tool I'm writing.
It's like this:

I have an abstract class that declares a few variables (object pointers), a
set of MustOverride subs, functions and properties and a set of Overridable
methods.

I made a derived class which does all the stuff it needs to do, ie. it works
fine when compiled. It also adds a bunch private methods and variables.

Now, whenever I change something in another part of the program, even
completely unrelated modules and classes, the derived class suddenly becomes
invalid. Sometimes the compiler starts whining about missing MustOverride
subs (while they are there), sometimes it's about variables that are out of
scope.

All I need to do is change something in the derived class, change it back
again and now everything is suddenly a-ok!

This is becoming a real problem since I have to write dozens of derived
classes and if they all start acting up when I add new code, I'll never be
able to get a compilable whole again. WHY am I getting errors that can
be fixed by doing/undoing something?

I'm really lost, the only solution I see is to do away with the abstract
base-class. But this works fine in other circumstances. Is this a bug in
VB.NET 2003?

Goodwill,
David
