JToolbar is a java.awt.Container, like all Swing components. You can use any
of the add methods from Container.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't add a JTree to a JToolbar.

It's a hack, sure. But if it gets you what you want, use it. If you need it
to be an MDI window you may need to look at alternative approaches, though.
