I believe the old saying goes, "There's no such thing as bad publicity....". Of 
course, it pairs well with, "Familiarity breeds contempt...and children." :)

I don't think perl needs marketing, it needs developers who anticipate and meet 
needs of those who might use the language to solve a problem. Most folks 
outside of the various communities really don't care what tool they use, just 
that it does the job.
