hi ... thanks for the proposal. +1 from me. Some comments below ... Nathan Kroenert - Server ESG wrote: > Proposal for Melbourne Solaris and OpenSolaris User Group Project (MSOSUG)
For the purposes of this project on this site within this community group, I'd just call it "OpenSolaris" .... It's much simpler that way, and as a practical matter, it doesn't matter that the topics overlap between Solaris (the product) and OpenSolaris (the code and community, etc). > Purpose: To drive awareness and adoption of Solaris and OpenSolaris in > the Melbourne region of Australia. > > List of Community Groups Sponsoring the project: > Advocacy Community Group > > List of project team members: > Nathan Kroenert(O.S. id: nathank), primary contact > Boyd Adamson (O.S. id: boyd) > > Project Description: The purpose of this project is to drive both > Solaris and OpenSolaris awareness amongst all Solaris users and > potential users in the community in this area. > > The desire is to increase OpenSolaris adoption wherever it is a good > fit, and encourage users to become more familiar and active with > OpenSolaris. The project also requires a mailing list. Suggested list name is > ug-msosug at opensolaris dot org. (Or even just msosug at opensolaris > dot org. :) Our naming convention for lists is "ug-" so we should stick to that. I think I saw some blogs on this meeting. :) > As already indicated, the group is young and there is a lot of core > Solaris learning that will need to take place for much of the group, so > we envisage that the first 6 months or so will be interchangeably > Solaris / OpenSolaris. :) > > Topics planned for the upcoming meetings (As captured at the first > meeting, and ordered by in-meeting vote: > zfs > S10 U4 + Ip Instances > Resource controls and zones > X86: xen / virtualization > SPARC: Ldoms > Solaris / Opensolaris performance management / observation > Differences and management of co-residnt S10 and SX / OpenSolaris > Solaris migration / etude > Commodity Hardware and OpenSolaris > Indiana > Feature interaction / conflicting functionality. eg: zones root + zfs. > > We trust you will consider our group worthy of a User Group and look > forward to being part of the community. :) > > Cheers! > > Nathan and Boyd. Cool. Let's see if anyone else has any questions or comments. We like to have at least 2 or more "+1s" for each group, so I'm sure you'll not have a problem. I'll be out of the office for a couple of days, so I'll check back in on Friday. Jim -- Jim Grisanzio http://blogs.sun.com/jimgris
