Proposal for OpenSolaris Mentoring Program

Purpose: To expand the OpenSolaris community through a mentoring
program that pairs senior community members with junior community
members and students.

List of Community Groups Sponsoring the project:
     Advocacy Community Group

List of project team members:
Brian Gupta(O.S. id: brandorr), primary contact
Elijah Wright(O.S. id: Elijah), alternate contact
     Jim Grisanzo(O.S. id: jimgris)
     Fauzia Saeed(O.S. id: foz)
     Rob Giltrap(O.S. id: thermo)

Project Description: To pair Senior developers and sysadmins with
junior developers and sysadmins to learn various aspects of OS
development and adminsistration. We would do outreach to university
compsci programs. (this doesn't exclude non-students as mentees)

The desire is to expand the community of OpenSolaris developers and
admins, which will help in the long run goal of building a
self-sufficient community. Currently there are domain experts, that
have the knowledge to do certain rare skills, being able to leverage
these domain experts in this mentoring program would eventually remove
these gates roles, and allow faster development as a whole. Hopefully
we will be able to leverage experiences from the GSoC (Google Summer
of Code) Mentoring facilitators.

Project Needs: This project requires project space on OpenSolaris.org
site. The project also requires a mailing list. Suggested list name is
mentoring at opensolaris dot org.

Thanks for your consideration,
Brian
