Unfortunately, the results are always zero. Random values would be a very useful feature though, especially if the ad hoc reports also returned some matching data. It's hard to know if you've match everything up correctly using the sandbox; the only way to be sure is to do live testing, which isn't always possible if you're building an application for someone else because of issues with the way tokens are supposed to be used.
