You will need to specify a format (csv, xml, etc,) , but 
https://code.google.com/p/google-api-adwords-php/source/browse/src/Google/Api/Ads/AdWords/Util/ReportUtils.php#151
 suggests 
that if you pass null to $path, you would get the report in memory instead 
of being written to disk.
