The guide that you are referring to describes how to work with any reports in general. Different types of reports available via the API can be found here <https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/reports>. To get the stats aggregated at the Ad level, you can use the Ad Performance Report <https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/reports/ad-performance-report>. You will need to select the fields that you are interested in from the available ones. These <https://github.com/googleads/googleads-java-lib/tree/master/examples/adwords_axis/src/main/java/adwords/axis/v201710/reporting> are code samples in reporting (Java) that you can refer to.
