https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=858997 was caused by a recent change to the way the the login page works; we stopped returning 401s on any XHR request, and instead just served up a partial.
It was trivial to switch back to 401s, but that broke error-handling on the login page. This patch also fixes that. So to test, beyond https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=858997#c4 you should also verify that if you enter an invalid login, you get an error message and not just the spinner. This is marked as a blocker+ bug on 1.1, but the patch is also useful upstream. -- Matt
