Every day on my Google home page I get a work as ''Art of the Day'. Mostly they are quite good. Sometimes I even download them into my screensaver (there were some good Rembrandt etchings recently) . But today's offering is remarkable for its awfulness. A James Tissot - of whom I have never heard - but who is, I would say, straight out the academic stables that bred the likes of Cabanel, Bougeureau, Bonnat, Detaille, Couture etc. etc
The work is at http://www.artbible.info/art/large/226.html if you can bear it. It reminds me of the illustrations in my Sunday School readers when I was a child. It might even have been one of them. His other works, which are linked, belong to the same genre: non art, anti-art. -- Derek Allan http://www.home.netspeed.com.au/derek.allan/default.htm
