Well, on one occasion early in 'The Metamorphosis of the Gods' he says that
'This work is neither a history of art nor an aesthetic' (une  esthetique).
It is clear enough from the context that by 'aesthetic' here he means a set
of criteria for judging works of art - a kind of artistic awards system.
And in fact none of his works offers this.  (Although - and this might get a
reaction from Chris - it is always clear enough which works he regards as
important - great - and which he doesn't.)
