I can understand your calling much of what I do "nitpicking", but I yearn to
convince you I don't do it as part of a game of "Gotcha!", nor, say I, does it
involve that usual connotation of "nitpicking" -- insignificant details. I do
it in reaction to the sight of listers entangled in arguments that are doomed
from the outset because the listers each have in mind a different notion
though they are using the same key word, and because some of those notions
seem
so unexamined as to ensure progress can't happen.

In the same posting William writes,

"I've never felt that art should be defined but instead
symbolized in the form of art propositions through
self-reflective experiences and projected
inclinations."

I'm damned if I have anything approaching a clear idea as I read that. And I
think William would be inapt to say that to take exception to his locutions
there would be just "nitpicking".
