I haven't read the article but I must say I have never had the feeling that a work of art made me 'discover myself'. I have had the feeling that it allowed me to recognise something that had never been articulated before. But that was never 'myslef'.
I think the idea that art is a kind of 'discover the real me' thing - if that is what is in question - is quite mistaken.
