I admit --- that when I queried the list for the names of living traditional
artists who were shown by major American museums -- I was sure that somebody
would come up with some names that were new to me -- because I don't travel
much outside the Midwest -- and I'm really only familiar with the exhibits of
one of one major "encyclopedic" museum, the Chicago Art Institute.

(just last month, the A.I.C. had a temporary exhibit of Euro-traditional
looking woodcuts of landscapes by living artists. But the artists were all
Chinese -- so that was acceptable. The chances of them having a similar
exhibit by Americans? Zilch-zippo-nada)

But I really thought that art-knowledgable people by William, Michael, and
Kate would come up with more than one or two names (who were not dead, were
not Pop Art, were unknown to me, and were in more than one museum)

And I continue to be surprised why they are in denial about this situation.
(except for William - who allows that perhaps I am partially right)

It's an incredible situation -- that really stifles the pursuit of excellence
in those genres -- oops, I mean styles -- that are going to be made and
collected anyway, whether art museums display the best examples or not.

(and it's especially serious in figure sculpture -- with the result that
contemporary American commemorative public statuary is possibly the worst in
the history of human civilization)
