There's probably a scheme, like the five stages of grief, for a cultural endeavor to go from unknown, unexpected, unwelcome, to understood and then made into greeting cards sold in the museum gift store. Perhaps that's the poster-child [!] of the commodifying of experience and feelings, the museum gift shop, which I think Barzun (among others) has already indicted.
