I went to the library the other day and recorded these marks I found
in books. Here are a few:

Can you tell which of these "marks" are different for others? Are any
from the 7th century? or 17th? How can you tell? You can't, can you?
Ha! But "people" who make books use marks like this all the time. Why
can't you tell the difference in these samples?
Will anyone ask someone else about these marks? No? I didn't think so.
