OK, Boris, how are you going to make the case that "totalitarians destroyed
artists"?

Even on the anecdotal level, it's not going to be easy,  because you will have
to demonstrate:

1. That the person was destroyed
2. That the person was an artist (and not just a wannabe)
3. That the person was destroyed by totalitarians rather than by some personal
failure- possibly including a failure to accommodate them.

Go ahead -- just pick one example -- and tell us the story.

Then, perhaps, we can examine some examples of artists who apparently thrived
in totalitarian regimes.  (I'm thinking , especially, of one Azerbajani
sculptor who lamented the fact that his students can never get the kind of
commissions that he did)
