They want the facture to look like the really good stuff,which means work and value. Their lack of knowlege about painting-they most of them only dependably recognize Monet because of the flowers, almost everything else is Rembrant-hinders them from thinking of other examples of facture that they might actually like. This may be true of Kincaid and his ilk too, most art studnts don't seem to pay attention in art history and when they do go to museums they only look at things for a minute at most while talking. The group as a whole also seems to associate drawing recognizable things with "real class" by which they mean something historical. Kate Sullivan
