Everybody who paints a portrait is a portraitist. But if the interest is in
making a list and checking it up, I'd say among the late 20th Century artists
of national fame, Chuck Close is the biggest portraitist. Among other
well-known artists well-known for their portraits are Alice Neel, Jim Dine,
Graham Sutherland, Klimt, Modigliani, Raphael Soyer, Larry Rivers, Hockney,
Kitaj, Ben Shawn, and the pastellist, Daniel Green. And more.
