The following notice was kindly prepared by Dom Lopes. Some of you may
remember the lively exchanges with Denis Dutton on our predecessor forum,
aesthetics-online. -- Cheerskep

I'm saddened to pass on the news that Denis Dutton died yesterday. He was
an unmistakeable and provocative presence in the aesthetics world and he will
be missed. Remembrances will soon be posted on aesthetics-online.org.

Here is are some pieces from the press:

And this was just added to his wikipedia page:

In his final email correspondence to the students of his first semester
University of Canterbury Philosophy 110 class entitled Science Good, Bad and
Bogus, he advised them that bThe shoulder pain he had been noticeably
suffering from was in fact cancer but that he had recently begun a
non-alternative
treatment and was thankfully feeling much betterb. His noticeable decline
continued, however, and it was in his last lecture of the year, that he
announced his reluctant retirement to his second semester class of Philosophy
220
students and without ceremony slipped quietly out the door of the university
he had lectured at since 1984. Other university students within the
Humanities did not know of his retirement until a memo was sent out
acknowledging
the cancellation and re-structuring of his former courses. He had also
received a Research Medal from the University at a graduation ceremonyB barely
a
fortnight before his death on 28 December 2010.
