decline of free-market values by claiming universal and measurable conditions 
of 
aesthetic response?

The thesis is a quick read, Michael.  The first few sentences dismiss any 
subjectivity while the main thesis conflates it as a matter of degrees of 
overload based on complexity of stimulus.  In other words, and I invent this 
analogy, you're an electrical outlet of, say, 15 amps.  You could handle one or 
two ordinary electrical appliances, but those plus a heater and an iron would 
be 
too much and you'd shut off.
