Emotionally, I can agree with the post (see below hotair.com ) but intellectually I know that the agenda of modernism is to critique or make transparent the presumptions of culture. If some contemporary art draws attention to the scummy then it's only portraying the mainstream culture. Thus the point of the article is misplaced. It should decry the scummy in society -- where it is a multi-billion dollar a week business -- and then pay attention to the majority of contemporary art that still aims for beauty and intelligent imagination. If the world values are evil or silly, don't blame the art, blame the values and the silliness. Art merely reflects its time. WC
