I know that when I started learning the language of higher mathematics
(when I was about 30) -  it really changed my perceptions of the
world. Particularly Bayesian analysis (in my mid 30's). But fwiw, I
was already fairly fluent in French, and crudely passable in Russian.
They all change the way one tends to categorize the world, and
understand its interactions. It's no different than (say) art, if you
work from life.
