Ever since the 19th century painting has had to survive in a world
whose sense of the visual image has been transformed radically by
photography and its digital heirs. In a presentation of paintings and
writings from the work of Francis Bacon and Gerhard Richter, this
lecture will argue that painting, instead of retreating from the
transformation announced by photography has now become its most
important interpretation.B
