"Art-speech is the only truth. An artist is usually a damned liar,
buthis art, if it be art, will tell you the truth of his day. And that
is allthat matters. Away with eternal truth."

Artistic research takes emblematic form in thelecture performanceba
widespread phenomenon on the international artscene of recent years.
The genre has its roots in the performance andconceptual art of the
1960s, and balances on the boundary between art andacademia. As a
hybrid of research, lecture, visual art and performativenarrative
techniques, the lecture performance as format addresses keyquestions of
the status and potential of art in knowledge society, as wellas the
mechanisms of producing and framing knowledge.B
In athree-day seminar, Overgaden focuses on the lecture performance as
a uniquediscipline, exploring the genre's characteristics, aesthetics
and locationat the intersection of artistic and academic discourse. The
focal point ofthe seminar is a series of lecture performances by Danish
and internationalartists, whose contributions span a wide range of
expressive forms andfields of political, philosophical, popular
cultural, legal andanthropological investigation.

The seminar also includescontextualising dialogues between and
presentations by leading researchersand theorists in the field,
addressing seminal aspects of the lectureperformance from a range of
perspectives. As well as an introduction to thehistorical development
and characteristics of the genre, the seminaraddresses the relationship
and exchange between artistic and academicresearch, the dramaturgy of
the lecture format, the subject on stage andlanguage as medium.
