I have my Cacti setup on a resource constrained machine right now and I do not 
have the problems you describe.

And if you're not running the spine poller, you should be, it is much more 
efficient. My poll time dropped from almost 2 minutes to under 20 seconds for 
about 400 devices.

weeks devices will either disappear, the poller cache needs to be rebuilt or 
different ping methods need to be selected in order to get devices to start 
graphing again. That or graphs will say Nan for a day and then go back to 
normal.
