>> Is it better than PMP450?

That’s a complex question..

Both radios support 256QAM

RM5AC-Lite supports more channel width options than PMP450, so supports higher
data rates in wider channels.

RM5AC-Lite is a +27dBm transmitter, PMP450 is a +22dBm transmitter … depending
on the antenna system you use, you may have a legal use for that larger output
power with RM5AC-Lite

RM5AC-Lite does not currently support sync, where PMP450 does … so denser
channel packing is possible with PMP450

RM5AC-Lite offers flexible up/down ratios, but at the cost of no sync … but the
AirPrism variant eliminates the need for sync in certain deployments depending
on your religion.

RM5AC-Lite has a nice price point compared to the PMP450 Access points and you
can use a single unit as either CPE or Access Point

PMP450 Access points have a very rugged design and are fully shielded..
RM5AC-Lite radios have pretty limited shielding, looking forward to the
Titanium level shielding design..

RM5AC-Lite gives me full access to busybox so I can run scripts and perform
tcpdumps of customer traffic, PMP450 is more of a walled garden approach.

At the end of the day, I think the RM5AC-Lite is looking to be a pretty solid
radio. I’ve been happy with the performance in our field trials and they seem
to have resolved the interference immunity issues that plague the older RM5
platform so greatly. I wouldn’t tear my PMP450 network down to replace it with
RM5AC at this time however, as I think the PMP450 with its software defined
radio can add other channel width options and AC modulation improvements if the
market demands it, has shown to be pretty bullet proof in the face of
interference, and has a fully functional sync.

For operators using RM5.. RM5AC is a huge improvement in speed and
reliability.. What I REALLY want to see is the RM5AC software build that offers
backwards compatibility to RM5 CPE’s. Then I definitely would forklift upgrade
all my existing RM5 access points to take advantage of the interference
immunity improvements and slowly convert the CPEs with high usage or local
interference problems to AC units.
