We were looking at netbooks not long ago, and I did see a low profile HP that had a clever way to fit an ethernet jack into the low profile form factor. IIRC, the ethernet jack itself kind of "folded" into the machine, and it flipped up about 20 0r 30 degrees to actually connect into it.

My partner has a low profile Acer that has a set of utility ports on the back that are exposed when it kind of clam shells open (including an ethernet port).

Apparently the previous generation XPS series had one of those RJ45 jacks where you flip out the side where the tab latches, but you may be right, this one is just too thin. Rather than use an active USB dongle, I wish there was a standardized low profile Ethernet connector so you would only need some passive patch cords with the special plug on one end.

It doesn't look thick enough to accommodate an Ethernet port.

This would be my new favorite ultraportable laptop if it didn't require a USB dongle for Ethernet. Lenovo has a funky Ethernet jack that flips out on their ultrabooks. Come on, Dell, some of us need Ethernet. Dell does have a clever multifunction dongle but it's still an extra thingy to carry and lose.

I guess my 5 year old Sony Z series will have to last a little longer.
