But then what costs more, the PE or the concrete?

Yea the rohn design is probably overkill for most sites. They design it with
worst possible soil in mind. If you want to change it the "right answer" is get
a PE to design it for you.

So I am planning the replacement on one guy wire anchor next week. The anchor
rod that goes into the concrete and other parts are on the way. I am lining up
the small excavator concrete and so on. Rohn calls for a 6’x 4’x 1.5’ slab of
concrete buried 4 feet under the surface of the ground. This is a 100’ Rohn 45.
I am all for doing things right but that seems huge to me. We have a very rocky
soil up here and at one site actually anchored into bed rock. This site we
won’t have that option but I suspect we will be digging through broken rock and
dirt the entire way. Its an old mining area and this site sits where they
pilled the “poor rock” that came out of the mine shafts. Its all over up here .
They have not mined in this area in 100 years so the soil is quite stable im
not concerned about that. Just wanted to get your thoughts on the size of this
anchor. We will have to mix the concrete on site no way to get a truck in.
