It would make more sense if the lasers are between balloons/drones, not to 
earth stations (and certainly not to end users).

One would also think if communications drones are the next big thing, they 
would go the way of communications towers and even satellites.  Where one 
company owns them, and then rents out space.  Remember when 5 cellular 
companies would all build their own towers right next to each other?

On the other hand, this might conflict with the idea of doing it on the cheap 
and basically giving away Internet to get eyeballs.

    Sounds like a TED talk.  How to get Internet to the whole world.  Get a 
bunch of money, hire some really smart people, and tell them to launch balloons 
with frickin’ laser beams attached to their heads.  Enjoy.
