Specs say they are 14.5” wide.  So about 18” would be better?
I was thinking of doing something like this but backwards and not so much 
standoff:

Only thing I don't like about those is that the holes are not on 16" centers. 
Kind of makes it hard to mount them on the studs (for wood-framed buildings).
