I am sure I have heard it before but never used it and never looked up the 
meaning until now.
I do use prevaricate, and confabulate.  Now I will have to add mendacious.

I listened to this story from On the Media on NPR, and found it very 
entertaining. It's a discussion about "Lies", and humans inability to just tell 
the truth.

One interesting sub-topic was Donald Trump, and an examination of 72 statements 
from the Donald. Of the 72 statement examined by Politifact.org, exactly zero 
of the statements was considered "true". About 4% of his statements were 
considered "partially true", but 84% of his statements were "mostly false", 
"false", or "pants on fire".
