As I recall, back in my 1970s (pre mormon) college days, the best value
(drunk/cost) was old English 800 malt liquor.
Seems like it was about $1.25 and one was all you needed.

Ah, yes, must use the correct terminology.
I remember when I was in college and the John Hancock Center was just built,
one of my buddies figured out you could buy a drink at the bar on the 96th
floor for about the same money as a ticket to the observation deck 2 floors
below, so off we went. One of us got a quizzical look when he ordered his
drink "with ice". Oh, you mean "on the rocks", I thought you said "with
rice".
So "neat" or "on the rocks" it is. And shaken, not stirred.
