those are the worst kind of trees for 900Mhz because the pine needles are
very similar to the wave length.

i'd guess you could still go a mile or two if the noise floor is decent
(pine trees will probably help the noise floor ;)

if you can get up high above the trees then the path thru the trees is much
shorter.
