24 VDC is a standard system battery voltage. Lead acid cells take a constant float voltage of 2.25 – 2.33 volts per cell to remain fully charged and ready to go when they are called upon.
So 2.33 x 12 = 28 volts. That is why you see system voltages of 28 volts all the time. I actually prefer 27 volts, but the spec sheet of the battery manufacturer is what really rules the issue. Hotter days need different voltages than cooler days, so a temperature compensated rectifier/charger/power supply will help to maintain battery life. Cranking a Meanwell up to 28 volts is just fine. 30 volts is more of a max voltage for the system. You may have a hard time finding such a beast. To get 30 you may have to crank down a 48 volt power supply or get a custom regulator. It's easy to find 24vdc but the 30vdc is elusive? I have been using the Meanwell SDR-24vdc and cranking them up to 28 vdc but I would rather do it right. Anyone have sources for such Power Supplies? thanks Sam -- -- Sam Lambie Taosnet Wireless Tech. 575-758-7598 Office www.Taosnet.com
