I believe that with four 12v batteries you can pull off 24v and 48v and send up tower with 3 conductors (common negative and separate hots) then all you need is a battery charger at the bottom with the ability to charge / supply necessary current for normal operations. This would prevent all the costs associated with inverters etc and would be clean (no switch time when power fails). Our solar sites run so much better than commercial power sites its amazing how good clean power makes such a difference. This should work right?
