I have never caught someone based on what the camera saw. Just say what they did and when they did it. So deterrence is the primary benefit of the camera. Fake cameras and signs will do the same thing. However if it is in a place with normally no movement, many cameras can send you an alert on movement. Then you could see what is happening and send the cops based on what you see.

But if there is an abundance of hikers or wildlife or etc false alarms might drive you crazy.
